Hi guys!

I consider buying a Synology DS216J and fill it with 2x WD Red 2TB. I have read a lot of stuff about this NAS and heard it can do a variety of things, yet I just want to make sure:

Will I be able to have:
- a 250 GB partition for Time Machine backup of my MacBook
- a 250 GB partition for Windows backup of my PC
- a 500 GB partition on which I can install games from e.g. Steam and play the off of that 500 GB partition
- the other unused 1 TB partition to store files like Photos, Videos and Documents on and access them even outside of my network?

Will this NAS be able to perform these tasks for me? As far as I understand, if I configure it correctly, yes. But just to make sure...

Thanks in advance,
DarkTron

The DS216J typically is setup in a mirror...

That said, you end up w/ essentially 1 disk's storage after format and overhead. Call it close to 1.75TB

You can do various configurations with it. I do not remember if you'd want to do separate partitions or just set limits on the different applications.

The Synology support team is pretty good... Ping them for specifics.
