I have an old HP pavilion I have to fix for someone. It has important documents and stuff but after cleaning it out, when I plug it in, it doesn't post. The PSU turns on, and the fans are running. Not too sure what to do. Thought it might be a bad port, and I could put in a cheap gpu, but I want your advice

Solution
Before you do anything else with it take HDD out, connect by USB adapter or directly to another PC and salvage everything from it. It just might get corrupted in the process of fixing PC and than you'd have helluva time to get files of it.

Did that. Checked the board, has corroded capacitors. Memory controller went bad. Have it all on a flash drive
