Can somebody recommend a good cpu and motherboard compatible with a Gigabyte geforce GTX 1060 graphics card?

I also have an ATX 12v v2.31 which also may need upgrading, is there anything else that needs to be checked before buying a new cpu and motherboard? My budget is around £400-£500 if that is any help, im relatively new to pc gaming so i wouldnt know what is good or not.

I'd recommend either the i5 7600k, or a Ryzen 5 1600x. With that i5, you'll want a Z270 board, and with the Ryzen, an X370. Both these systems are very well paired with your card, and will actually allow headroom for upgrading your CPU later for newer, better cards. In fact, I'd personally say the 1600x, just for the reason of upgradability alone, not including the fantastic multi-core benefits, and *hyper-threading* that whips Intel back into the corner. The AM4 socket is in the infantile stages; whereas LGA1151 and LGA2011v3 are on the way towards the door, given Intel's generational history with their socket types.

TL;DR: Ryzen 5, which is about 10 bucks more expensive than i5 7600k.

How will that effect my OS licence will i be able to put the disk and reinstall the same windows 10 that came with the PC or will i have to buy a new OS altogether?

What is the make/model of your current motherboard, cpu, ram, and psu?

What games will you play?
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer with many participants tend to like many threads.

A GTX1060 is a very nice £200 gaming card.
One rule for a balanced gamer is to budget 2x the cost of the graphics card for the cpu.
By that metric, a I3-7100 would be appropriate.

Windows 10 is supposed to be transferrable to a new motherboard if you have registered it.

If your budget permits, a £200 I5-7600K and a Z270 based motherboard is as good as it gets for most games.

If your copy of Windows is for more than one license, I.E; not an OEM license, but retail or business- you should be able to use the same disk once more, as long as you're sure it is viable for more than one license. As well, I would like to make a revision. If you're going to be doing purely gaming, the i5 7600k is most definitely your guy, at the moment. Primarily because it is optimized for these tasks, whereas the R5 1600X is newer, thus less optimized and doesn't lend its cores as well before the system 'matures', per se. See here:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600X/3885vs3920

- the R5 1600X is a very, VERY good workstation CPU, and still a very potent GPU for gaming- but, it just doesn't compare to the i5 in that category.
