My gf bought A computer I helped her select hp Compaq elite 8100. It was in a large tower, not slim.

Here's what she got:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8WV3VJ8250

She also ordered a corsair cx430 and a Radeon 6670.

Problem with this system hp made the motherboard in a way where it only works with this psu. So can't upgrade power supply without upgrading motherboard.

Places the Radeon 6670 in the system it works but complainss of poor performance running Sims 2.

Could the 320w psu not putting out enough power to the graphics card cause performance issues?

And what's easiest way to find a motherboard that will work with all parts in the system? I know how to specify socket type to make sure you is compatible, but need to make sure ram is compatible as well.

Thanks!

6670 is 5 year old tech. I can't tell you why the image is worse, possibly because the card might be partially defective.

I might suggest a GTX750ti which is about the strongest card that will run on a 300w psu.
I recently bought a evga unit used for some $75 on ebay and the picture quality is excellent at 2560 x 1600 resolution.

Connections, has a proprietary 6 pin p2 connector on motherboard.

I know system should run it fine, that's why I asked if running a graphics card on a low power would or could effect it's performance

The 6pin connector is on the motherboard not the card that's why I can't upgrade the power supply without upgrading the motherboard. The motherboard has 2 6 pin connectors labeled p1 and p2 that's y the corsair 20+4 won't work in it or any other psu for that matter.

But as the person above said the Radeon 6670 should be plenty to run Sims 2 which is all she wants.

So my main questions here are.

Is a 320w psu enough to run an Intel i5 and Radeon 6670. And can having a low wattage psu cause performance issues?

Thanks

I'll have to check that and get back to you. But actually the ad was incorrect it came with 8gb of ram.

A graphics card that does not need a 6 pin aux power connector will draw a max of 75w from the pcie slot.
What is left will be plenty to run the cpu and other parts.
If, for some reason, you are having power problems, it is likely to be caused by the supplied psu which is likely to be a cheap unit.

The cpu is a good one and not power hungry.
If you are having performance issues, it is likely related to the 6670 or the driver which is needed to run it at full potential.
You did Install the 6670 driver??

I did update driver. I guess I should explain what the issues are. She's annoyed picture looks jagged and pixelated. And her old system had a sapphire 5450 and it looked better. So she's wondering why the 6770 looks worse and is a better card.

Ya I understand it's not the most ideal. I run a alienware laptop and desktop I customised with top specs myself.

But she just wants to play Sims 2, SIM city, and uses office and didn't want to spend more then 250. So I had to get creative lol

The link you provided says the psu is 240w.
If a graphics card does not get sufficient power it might show artifacts, fail, or run slower.

Have you tried the integrated graphics?
If integrated comes close, perhaps something like a
GTX1050 would do what you want.
