My friend gave me his Seagate 2tb external hdd which stopped working on his xbox. I tried to fix it myself on my pc but was getting no luck so I took it out of the case and tried going straight through sata (its too old for warranty) and got a little better results but not much. It appears in disk management and device manager however I can't use Seatools as the drive completely disappears when I boot it up. If I click on properties in device manager it takes a good 5-10 mins for the properties page to actually load. formatting does nothing (although it says its 100% free anyway) chkdsk doesnt work as its file system is RAW and TestDisk also couldn't find the drive as it just crashed. I'm all out of ideas. I don't need the drive but it would be a significant upgrade if I could save it.

You might be able to get the drive going again by replacing the circuitbd and then swapping over the prom chip from the old one. You need to make sure you get the EXACT same board.

The circuit bd is probably half the price of a new drive so if the data isn't important I would forgo it.
