Graphics card died after connecting a new monitor

So I bought a new monitor to have a dual monitor setup going and connected it to the gfx card and powered the pc on, but after a minute the pc shut down and wouldnt start up. So I tried to see what's wrong and opened up the pc, when i turn it on the cpu fan and the fan of the graphics card would stir and immediately stop. So I removed the graphics card and connected the monitors to the motherboard. Seems like windows installation broke somehow but everything else works fine. I got linux running for now.

So what I want to know is how do I proceed right now. I dont know if it's the motherboard slot, gpu or the psu that's at fault. I live in a place far away from the city so it's hard to find a test bench to test out the card elsewhere. Also there's only one PCI-E slot on the motherboard. I could order a new gfx card but dont want it to die again because of the psu or the motherboard.

If there's nothing that can be done of course I'd have to take the trip to get things fixed but just want to know what I should do.

Specs:

Motherboard - gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3
Gfx card - AMD R9 270x
CPU- AMD FX-6300
RAM - 8GB DDR3 stick
PSU- Corsair CX 500

Could you please describe what happens when you connect your graphics card to only one monitor? Also, try using another port on the graphics card if it doesn't work the first time.

Hey thanks for the answer. So it doesnt matter if I connect one monitor or not because as soon as the graphics card is in the slot, even if the 2 power connectors are not given to it, the pc doesnt turn on. And I only have one slot sadly.

Once the graphics card is out, everything works. I have linux running at the moment with both the monitors connected. I just dont know if the gfx card died because of the psu or if the pci slot is not working.
