Sound Blaster Live! Not working

Hi. I have a Windows 98 Computer running with:
-Gateway E205351 Motherboard
-Intel Pentium III Card Slot @550(?)MHz
-256MB RAM
-80GB WD HDD
-Sound Blaster Live! CT4830 Sound Card
-Windows 98 SE

Recently I had corrupted my PC and had to reload the entire PC. Beforehand I seemed to have found and installed all the drivers no problem. It worked great until I had to reload it. I backed up all my files and everything I needed, and I had all my drivers and software installations on various sources (extra computers, thumb drives). When I got the PC all ready after the installation, I loaded my graphics drivers, and I TRIED loading my sound card drivers. I didn't remember what exactly I used or how I did it the last time (it's been a year or so) and I had a bunch of drivers sitting there (software installation, cabs, hotfixes) so I tried all of them. None worked. No matter what order. I kept un-installing and re-installing drivers. I even reloaded Windows 98 again. Nothing worked. I checked to see that everything worked. All the software, any little tab or setting on that PC, I checked it. Nothing works. The speakers make a fizzling sound when turned up loud and, (this is odd), when I was trying to adjust the volume in the taskbar, no sound. When I muted the volume and tested it, you could hear a little bit of the system sounds. When you kept it on mute, turned all the way up, the speakers played absolutely terrible quality normal Windows 98 sounds. I concluded I must had the wrong drivers. All of them. None worked. So I searched on the internet. I clicked on every site I saw that had CT4830 drivers or generic driver packages for Sound Blaster Live! I found nothing different than what I had. I tried Windows ME/2000 drivers. They didn't work. I noticed when installing the drivers that are "supposed" to work for Windows 98, it didn't seem to give a full installation. But Device Manager had all the Creative sound drivers and audio drivers. I'm really confused on why sound isn't working. I looked at the physical card to make sure everything was ok. (The PCI slot, card itself, signs of damage, and making sure the CD input is also plugged into the card) I double checked everything. Even then cords and speakers (I tried different speakers).
Could there be something wrong I did? Is the card itself bad? Is there's really no drivers that will work?
I am possibly looking at a replacement card for it, one that comes with a CD with genuine drivers. But before I make the purchase, I was wondering if there was anything I missed. If someone could please help me in this situation, it would be greatly appreciated. I use that computer a lot for retro gaming and old neat software. I can't really use it without sound. If anyone could give advice or help or even some drivers that would be so much help

Hello... I'm finding them for sale... what your location and how/where do you purchase... basically win98 was 32 bit... so Windows adaptability and 32 bit driver for the sound card will be needed.

You could also find used SB PCI at a local computer re-cycling store... before they started to put sound chips on MB's... every OLD computer will have one as "standard" equipment... I have a Box with a few in it B /

Yes the speakers are there as an output with the port number. I tried playing a test sound and they still didn't work

I've actually narrowed it down to the card itself being shot. I need to get a new card for the PC.

The "fizzling" sound could just be the speakers themselves, the cable used to connect them, or even the sound card.
Are you installing drivers Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition? I can't recall if the two versions of 98 use the same drivers, but it could be the cause.
Good for you for keeping that guy running! I wonder if you're the guy I sold mine to- A Gateway2000 G6-233m for $35, at 17 years old (because we were downsizing and that PC is huge :D)
