I'm currently staying at a motel. The WiFi signal is weak and unstable. My son's Xbox 360 will connect but won't stay connected. I bought an ether net cable and then realized that the Xbox 360 can't configure direct ether net cable. I bought a used Linksys 2.4 Ghz router and ran ethernet from router to Xbox. I get a DNS error. Can't access the router. I only have my phone. I downloaded an app, but it still won't access router. What can I do?

Solution
You may have to configure something in the router. Many routers do not allow you to do configuration via wireless by default you must the first time connect to them with ethernet and turn on the wireless configuration option.

You need to somehow get into the router and verify that the wall jack in your room actually is active and providing a ip address to the WAN port of your router.
You connect the Ethernet from the wall jack in the hotel room to the WAN port of your router. You connect the XBox to a LAN port on the router.

There should be a pinhole or tiny reset button on the back of the Linksys. Hold it for 30 seconds. This should reset the router to factory settings. Factory settings uses DHCP for everything and should work.

If the hotel has something that prevents routers. You will need to talk with their help to find a solution to get your XBox connected.

Tried that. Assured that ethernet cable was in the correct spot. Turned off Xbox fit about a minute to restart. Can't connect through wired or wireless. Same error, DNS error.
