Hello guys,

Here is my specs-

i) Intel Core i7 4790K @ Stock
ii) Gigabyte Z97M-D3H motherboard
iii) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz Dual-Channel 16 GB
iv) Corsair VS650 PSU
v) Corsair H60 Cooler
vi) Gainward GeForce GT 640 2GB DDR3

I want to upgrade my GPU so can anyone recommend me a good GPU within $350-$400 price range?

Also except the GPU is the rest of my build good enough for 1080p and 1440p gaming or should I need to upgrade something?

Thanks in advance :)

Any gpu you buy will be a massive upgrade, and your cpu will support anything.
Since your psu has been working, I would not change it out.
Since you are experienced with nvidia drivers, I would continue with nvidia and look for the best 10xx series GTX card that your budget will buy.
In the US, that would be a GTX1070.
Factory overclocked versions are probably worth the extra price, but do not chase those with fancy coolers and max overclocks.

Change the PSU and get one that is as close to tier 1 as possible then drop the rest of the money on a GTX1070. If you want 1080p gaming the GTX1070 would be more than enough with all details maxed out but for 1440p gaming you're going to need the GTX1080. Another viable option for 1080p gaming is the RX580.

Assuming by your alias, you're located in India? If so then you sure you want to talk about USA and not INR? Likewise, you sure you want us to source parts from sites in USA? If I've gotten your alias wrong, please accept my apologies.

Thought of buying a Gigabyte GTX 1060 G1 (priced at Rs 25000) but many of my friends told me that it will be a bottleneck for 1440p. A 1080 will be out of my budget as its pretty expensive.

For the PSU, its working well for me (atleast till now) so I'm gonna stick with it for now hoping it wont light anything on fire. Is VS series so worse? If thats the case then I might consider a PSU upgrade as well.

And BTW thanks everyone for answering :)

GTX1060 would be a major upgrade for you.
If that is what you can afford, go for it.
If you will have a 1440P monitor, you will also get more pixels. That allows you to run with a less aggressive aa setting and still get straight lines.

AA is one of the more stressful settings for a graphics card.
