Yesterday i had a issue with my WD Caviar Blue 1TB drive before it had the geiger counter sound7 but it was quiet, now i have the same sound but the geiger counter sound is loud and appears sometimes at boot when downloading and gaming yea its on full load then but is it bad that i have this loud sound or should i seek to buy a new HDD and make a backup.I also used the WD program to do a SMART test and it passed but i didnt have time to do a random access test

kinda sad how my warranty expired 3 months ago

Now would be a very good time to do a thorough test of your HDD. I'd suggest that you back up your content if they are critical otherwise if they are easily available (like games) then you need not worry apart from your images/personal files.

The sound you're describing reads out like the drive is showing signs of fatigue/wear and tear. It'd be a good idea to pass on a video to get a confirmatory nod about the sound. If you're within warranty period, might also be a good idea to inform your seller and WD about the issue. That video would also hold as proof.

Mind you, how old is the HDD you're speaking of?

also i want to know if the sound i get is just the fact the HDD is getting old and it just got louder or is that a clicking noise lf death all the people i asked said it was fine but im still sceptic

Until you actually know what is making the noise, anything is pure speculation.

But a drive making new noises is never a good thing. It is likely dying.

Ok so i did the random read test from the WD Life guard program and it passed so is there still a chance of it being faulty i also didnt hear the noise even once
