I started having problems recently, my PC would sometimes die when stressing GPU, probably bad PSU. Eventually my OS got corrupted, so I did a clean install (also replaced a failing HDD with a new SSD) and it's been fine for a few weeks.

Today, after hitting the power button, the computer started but shut down after 1-2 seconds, then rebooted. Screen didn't even light up. This happened once more before booting succesfully. Everything seems fine now, except that Windows has been running scheduled maintenance for about two hours, it seems stuck. I have not restarted yet, I am kinda paranoid.

I am very busy now and won't have time to replace the PSU this month (unless really necessary), having another failure would be a big problem for me though.

What could have caused the booting problems? Was it just the bad PSU acting up?

I'm not an expert by any means but my guess is a bad component and the PSU would be the top of my list. If you don't have time to replace the PSU, you could try the "system won't boot" checklists. At worst with the checklists, you confirm it is the PSU that's going bad. At best, you figure out it's something else.
