RAM overclocking problems with Ryzen

So, I managed to get a stable 3.9Ghz overclock on my R1600 chip. I then decided to overclock my RAM since everyone and their mother has been saying higher frequency RAM helps Ryzen perform much better. I have been trying for 4 days now to get the X.M.P profile to work, and even tried overclocking manually, but the RAM doesn't seem to want to overclock. I OC the RAM, save and restart, and it just clocks everything back to it's factory defaults! And the RAM stays at the default speeds! The timings for the RAM also don't want to apply either! They operate at a digit above their intended speeds. Does anyone have this issue? Has anyone fixed it by any chance? I suspect a BIOS update will help down the road, but I am curious to see what you guys think.

Overclocking ram can be fickle .
When you say overclock , if you've bought 2133 or 2400 & you're trying to push it past its rated speed then there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever its going to happen.

The quality of the ram itself is going to be a major major factor as is the issue currently with single rank/dual rank discrepancies on am4 boards.

I'm running ballistix sport ddr4 2400 cas 16 1.2v at 2666 cas 12 1t which I honestly wouldn't expect any other ram to manage in all honesty.
It actually hit 2933 cas 16 2t but performance difference is just minimal at those settings & it needed a voltage increase.
Absolute fluke as it wasn't even purchased for a ryzen build.

I have 16GBs of Corsair LPX 3000Mhz RAM paired with an ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard. I have tried to get the RAM over its default 2133Mhz setting using X.M.P and manual OC but like I stated, nothing seems to do the trick. I even tried to amp up the voltage to AMD's alleged max for the RAM which was 1.400 volts but that got me no where, The timings also don't change even if I try to change them.

Using the BIOS of course. I got it running very stable at 3.9Ghz with 1.33750 volts to be exact. Any lower voltage and it would cause stability issues for my particular chip. And yes I am aware updated BIOS can fix a lot of things, I was just wondering if anyone else was going through the same issues, and maybe even find a solution.

Almost everybody with Ryzen chips/boards are struggling with XMP settings for RAM. Most are capping out around 26XX-29XXMhz (if you're lucky).

Some people are reporting success with manually entering the timings opposed to enabling the XMP profile, but there's no guarantee there.
BIOS updates are still required.

What settings have you actually got in bios for ram ??.

I would have thought changing dram from auto to xmp 2 would at least get you 2666mhz.


I would suggest saving your current bios oc profile.

setting cpu back to defaults & trying the xmp setting again.

On another note you have disabled cool & quiet ??
Seems to have an adverse effect on ram speed if its enabled.

Well, I've tried everything and nothing has worked. I have set the OC on the CPU to default and nothing changes. I have plugged in the timings and, again, nothing changes. I have messed with the Volts and still, nada. I really don't know what the hell is going on!
