I was curious if I could use an external power supply for a graphics card. Because I wanted to get a GTX 1080, but I am unsure if the psu that I could put into my pc would have the correct plugs. My computer is a Lenovo m73 10b0, has an i5-4570 cpu, the graphics that came with it(intel hd graphics 4600 desktop), and 16GB of ddr3 ram. And from what I could tell, the GTX 1080 should be able to fit inside of it. The psu(s) that I was told by Lenovo that I could put into it were 54y8899/76, which are rated at 450 watts. But I wasn't sure if it has the correct plugs, so, could I power the GTX 1080 externally or no?
Edit/Update: And what if the power supply for the graphics card sat outside of the case?

in term of using a external powersupply there is not going to be any problem.... but well like SR-71 BlackBird Says , is a propietary desing. a 1080 probably wont go to fit.? there are people that try it whit 1060 and it works. you should use nvidia drivers and not lenovo. I recomend to you use a friend pascal card if it works a 1080 will do it.
