Wierd sound coming from gtx 1080 ti

I just got home from buying a Msi Gtx 1080ti gaming x, i plugged in the card, and tried running some games on it, but when i started playing gta v the card started making a weird buzzing sound.
It's difficult to descripe sounds, but it's like a consistent low buzzing sound, like a super tiny fan spinning with 5000 rpm
I'm thinking it's the psu, but i really need some help with this problem.

It could be coil whine, have you pinpointed the source of the noise? Does it come from the fans?

Ceramic capacitors can also behave like piezoelectric speakers under some circumstances. Since the filter caps are right next to the inductor, it would be difficult to tell which one it is if the whine truly comes from that area. It can be both too.

There aren't 50 ways to find out where the noise come from. Use a paper or cardboard tube, hold it to your ear with the computer's side panel off and find where the noise is loudest.

It is also entirely possible that the noise is caused by an interaction between PSU-MoBo-GPU as transients caused by one components reach another and the reaction of that other component causes more transients that other components have to cope with, rinse and repeat. Being that unlucky isn't common but it does happen.

I get the same thing with my ASUS Strix 1080 ti. I replaced the GPU, but the sound is still there. Yes it's only under load and it's really hard to tell if it's coming from the fans for me at least. It was difficult to replace the GPU because the demand is so high. I'd make sure that it's in stock before you return it. I also replaced the PSU, just to be safe, but it didn't help. The sound is still there.

I'm not sure how that is relevant. It sounds rather sarcastic and like you're blowing the OP and I off. Which is not something I would expect from a moderator. If you aren't being sarcastic, please clarify. The sound is definitely coming from the GPU or something very close to it and the OP said that the fans aren't running on the GPU, so it's not the fans.

I was serious. Many motherboards have built-in audio layout issues or a ground loop through other components that cause electrical noise to get coupled into the outputs. When that happens, the electrical load spikes across the computer's ground cause noise following the PC's activity patterns to come out of the speakers. If you don't believe me, search for posts about "static" noise from speakers while moving the mouse. Both of my previous PCs have that issue.

So, if you couldn't figure out from what direction within the PC the noise was coming from, there was a definitive possibility that it might not be coming from the PC at all.

As I wrote earlier, it is possible that the whining is caused by interaction between multiple components (PSU, GPU VRM and CPU VRM mainly) and in that case, they could indeed all be whining. If you happen to have some 1000+uF 16V low-ESR caps lying around, you could try back-stabbing one or two between 12V and ground in the PCIe, ATX12V and 24/28-pin connectors, see if that helps. (Turn the PC off first and triple-check polarity.)

AlternativeFactsForPresident I'd be interested in seeing the results of the troubleshooting that InvalidError prescribed. With that said, you initially started this thread by naming the PSU as the likely culprit. Antec makes some fantastic power supplies, but yours doesn't appear to be one of them. After several Google searches, I'm left with the feeling that it's a odd-duck of a power supply; both in product and it's support. The unit is rated for 700 watts, but only comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty. The Antec site's hyperlink for the product manual is not functional, so I can't look up how many 12 volt rails it has. I can find no meaningful hardware reviews of the unit. The website states that it's 88% energy efficiency, which suggests that it's 80 Plus Silver rated, yet there is no efficiency certification listed.

Question: The Antec website lists a "thermal manager" feature, similar to EVGA's ECO feature. Does the power supply have a switch to turn off this feature? The reason I ask is because your issue only appears when the computer is under load from playing a game. If the noise is truly coming from the power supply's fan, then this would provide us with excellent evidence that the PSU is indeed the culprit.

Thermal Manager - An advanced low voltage fan control for optimal heat & noise management

Summary: I'm lazy. Were I in your situation, I would start off by replacing the power supply, before continuing the troubleshooting process. Personally, once I'm using any GPU above a GTX 1070, I would immediately upgrade from any tier 3 or 4 PSU to a tier 1. Money is very tight for me. Therefore I always spend $80-$100 on a new power supply in order minimize the risk of my system becoming damaged. Also, I hate being in situations such as yours, when I have to wonder if the PSU is a likely culprit. Having a mediocre power supply adds a level of complexity to troubleshooting issues, that I simply don't care to deal with in my own systems. Is it possible that the sound might remain, even after replacing the PSU? Absolutely, but it's the just order of how I would personally handle this issue.

I dont have another psu to test it with, but the sound is not coming from the fans, the fans are not even spinning when the sound is there, the sound also gets worse the more load i put it under, i think it might just be coil wine.
Also i just noticed something, i started experiencing stuttering when playing gta v, so i took my headphones off and noticed that sometimes the sound stops for half a second, and when the sound isn't there, the screen is also frozen, it's really annoying, i will be taking the card over to a friend who has a 800w psu.
Edit: I can't find a button on the psu, it should have 2x12v rails with 35a each, but the gpu has to run on the same rail as mobo etc, the only thing that runs on the other rail is the cpu.

I upgraded to new 850 W gold PSU and new motherboard. The sound is still there. Will try Invalid Error's suggestion next when I have the time/inclination. Nothing is freezing for me, so it's just an annoyance.

They were different models. The old one was a Corsair CX750M and the new was an EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2. Thanks!
