IHM stands for IronWolf Health Management, it's a way of protecting your drives which you only get on Seagate IronWolf drives (in capacities 4TB or larger) with compatible Synology NAS units which takes checking drive health beyond traditional S.M.A.R.T monitoring. It's much more proactive in protecting drive health than S.M.A.R.T because S.M.A.R.T only reports pass or fail status whereas IHM provides specific proactive options ahead of potential specified fail events. S.M.A.R.T measures only 20 drive parameters, and IHM monitors over 200. S.M.A.R.T also doesn't really do baselines for drive health, whereas IHM consistently compares parameters to a baseline for any potential warning signs of drive issues.

Regardless of which drive you...

For my dollar I'd go with the Seagate. Newer technology (and they've got some cool tech in those drives), double the cache, and the specs of the ironwolf pro basically make it look like a Seagate enterprise drive with a red sticker.

Regardless of which drive you end up feeling is right for your needs, we want to say thank you for considering Seagate!
