Hello!

So, half a year ago, I built myself a new gaming system. I didn't recycle any of the parts from my old system.

Now, I'd like to take the 500GB HDD from my old system and build it into my new one.

This HDD has an old Windows 7 installation. I do not need this as I run Windows 10 on my new system.

How do I go about building it into my new system? I know how to build it into my new PC, but do I need to format it? Or do anything else before I build it in?

Thank you in advance :)

Ideally to avoid conflict with your new OS, yes you'd need to format the drive on which your installation of Windows 7 resides. The rest of the drives on that 500GB HDD can remain intact. Oh and I assume you're only going to connect it off an available SATA data port off the motherboard? Prior to that just make sure your chipset drivers are up to date as well as your motherboard BIOS.

Ok, so just building it in and then formatting it on the new system will be fine?
Or do I format it beforehand?

I'm assuming that the boot order will remain unchanged if I build it in?
