I own an Asus x54c computer on which the mobo will need to be replaced (back story: there's a short happening somewhere on it). The internet connection at my location is gigabit. I want to install a board that has a network adapter that can handle 1000Mbps. Is this doable on this older unit without the machine "rejecting the transplant?"

If you can happen to the a motherboard from the same model you possibly could, but I guarantee it will be difficult to actually do it even if you can find one
