Should I do a system restore if my Alienware Computer is not at peak gaming performance?

Just a question, I'm trying to figure out if I should do it or not, I feel like my computer is being really slow-ish, during gameplay, low framerates, and poor performance in general. I don't know if that will fix it or not, I'm thinking of backing it up, then doing it, however if that's not the case then I'm not sure what I should do. I'm almost positive my computer was running better when I got it, and it's only been two years since I've had it. I don't want to do it if I don't have to.
