Tired posting earlier, but my connection dropped so dont know if it posted.

Is this build ok? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/NM7hr7

I went to play arma 3 and civ 6.

Havent built a PC since early 2000s and that was just for basic games and stuff. so im not sure if this build is the best i could get. I tired in a local PC shop, however he tired selling me a i7 when i started my budget would only allows me to get a i5. Ideally if it could be cheaper that would be better but can go slightly higher if need be.

Thanks for the help

this is the best i could do and i have had to sacrifice the rx 580 ssd and 1tb storage and also gone cheap on the case .. but it is the best gaming cpu on the market at this time . not sure i would recommend it though tbh .

- 3000 MHz RAM isn't necessary on this CPU, especially with the new board. A nice 2400 MHz kit will do fine.
- Z boards are for Overclocking, this nice B250 will do just the same job for this CPU.
- The RX 570 is 50-60% stronger on average, great for simple games like Civilization VI and ARMA 3 on higher settings.

My only other note is Ryzen might be a good choice here, but as far as i know ARMA 3 works better on Intel CPUs, someone might be able to help clarify on this and if i'm wrong, Ryzen might be a better option for the CPU. Hope this helps :)

The CXM 550 isn't stocked in U.K?

ha i know i'm just editing it .. i thought the price doesn't add up! too fast for me to correct it :p

edit : changed the case too. think the OP would be better if he has a bit more storage and the rx 580 will be a great gpu for him as it is similar in price to the rx 570 but my build does go slightly over budget with the extra storage .

edit: you had your weetabix this morning ?? :p haha can't believe how fast you picked up on my error ! that will teach me for not checking after changing country on partpicker :p

Nope Eggs+Bacon for me this morning :D

On another note, it's actually 7PM for me right now! Either way i agree your build is better if he is happy to spend a little more. I just went the RX 570 since it's just for Civilization 6 and ARMA 3 primarily, but of course the RX 580 would be better in the long run.

eggs and bacon! making me hungry now! haha 7pm! i thought you lived in the uk for no apparent reason! it is only 10:05 am here :p would you like toast and cappuccino with that sir ? :p

i think the OP needs to inform us of his intended gaming practices with regards to AAA titles .. if he has no interest then i doubt he will require the extra storage but i think i would stick with the rx 580 whichever build he opts for .. because like you say.. it will last longer for a small increase in price .

I like the ideally of getting the 580, even though there is a slight price increase.

I will be looking to play AAA games at some time in the future, ark would be a game i woukd want to play when its properly released. Currently i game on a one and most of the people i play with are moving over to PC now, hence me building one. Most of us play on playing alot of arma, but that will change we all get settled in and new games get released.

I should have probably started in the originals post that i would be looking to upgrade to an i7 within a year or so.

Edit. Auto correct put in an email address

you can still upgrade to an i7 7700 using the b250 motherboard . whilst you won't be able to overclock it will save you from having to purchase an aftermarket cooler . i would recommend thinking seriously about getting the i7 from the start tbh as it doesn't make financial sense imo to do it the other way :p

i ll attempt a build and see if i can get in price range .

or this build. i think this could be very tempting .. sacrificing the SSD for the I7 7700

first build motherboard allows dual gpu setups via crossfire (not recommended as a single gpu upgrade is always a better upgrade unless there is no possible upgrade!) you could take this motherboard and use it in the I7 7700 build as the motherboard i selected there does not.( i was just trying to save money!)
you also have the ssd for faster loading/boot times (offers no noticeable improvement in gaming performance in relation to FPS ) but they are super quick compared to a mechanical HDD.
the core i5 7500 is a 4 core/4 thread cpu where as the i7 7700 is a 4 core/8 thread cpu (behaves like an 8 core cpu and has a higher base clock speed of 3.6ghz and a turbo of 4ghz compared to the i5 7500 base clock of 3.4ghz and turbo of 3.6ghz). in other words the i7 7700 cpu is faster and can handle multi threaded tasks much better .

want the best gaming performance out of the two.. then choose the i7 7700. if you ever decide to stream your gaming sessions with friends then the multi thread aspect will also be useful.. although amd ryzen cpus are the best for this .. but lets not go confusing the issue!

if any of this doesn't make sense i apologise as i am rushing but i don't want to leave you without an answer before i go offline and i am sure CROSSL3Y is actually better at explaining than i am! so hopefully he will fill in any of the blanks for you . apologies .
