I have an older Dell Optiplex 990 with an 17 2600 chip, which is socket lga1155. The motherboard i have sucks (small form factor) so I would like to put the chip into a regular mobo. I was looking at
Gigabyte LGA 1151 Z170 2-Way SLI UEFI DualBIOS ATX DDR4 ATX DDR4 NA Motherboards GA-Z170XP-SLI - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012AQGL4A/ref=psdc_1048424_t2_B01MSWU0AW?th=1 -

Would this mobo work for me, are their any weird things dell does to prevent this, and is it just like plug and play, put new chip in, load bios, exit, and everything works.

Also if anyone knows a better mobo with SLI please let me know I am looking for the best quality for the best price. Thanks for the hlp

Yeah the SLI ones are jsut too expensive. thanks for your input!

Note however, that you may have problem with that Dell case - it may use custom standoff system that may not be compatible with standard ATX boards. Also check out if PSU has normal 24-pin and 4+4 pin cables and note some 'Dell only' solutions.

i plan on swapping the psu, i have a thermal take 850 powering the same chip in a dell motherboard. also i plan on putting this a different case, i have a few options from old dell optiplexes to some gaming ones. I ended up getting a dell mobo for the same optiplex, but its the full form factor one, i had the small form factor. So i think that should work easier.
