Hey guys, amateur PC builder and avid gamer here. I recently upgraded my PC to get back into gaming, and finished getting it all together today. Downloaded new drivers for my graphics card and motherboard and then went straight to steam to fire up my favorite strategy game. Unfortunately, only a couple minutes in lead to a hard crash for my PC. The first one ended with my speakers making a screeching noise, and the second one leaded me directly to a blue screen with Windows saying "Something went wrong :( we are restarting your PC" something along those lines. Here are my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Quad-Core 4.2 GHz LGA 1151
GPU:AMD SAPPHIRE Dual-X R9 280 (it has served me well enough)
MOBO: ASRock Z270 KILLER SLI/AC LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: PNY ANARCHY 2x8GB 2400 MHz DDR4
PSU: EVGA 600 B1 100-B1-0600-KR 80+ BRONZE 600W
OS: Windows 10
As well as my HDD, 1 TB

How can I go about determining the issue? Is it most likely a hardware issue? Any advice on where to go from here is very much appreciated, I'm been wanting to get back into PC gaming for quite a while now haha

I resolved the same issue on an ACER notebook like this:

- installed msi afterburner
- set the gpu clock lower by 50 Mhz (EX from 550Mhz to 500Mhz)
- started any game that the notebook could run and played for hours with no bsod.
