Should I keep my Linux server on 24/7? Issues with power management.

I am a bit of a newcomer to Linux and have recently switched my Windows 10 server to Openmediavault.

In addition to serving media on my network, I also use TVHeadend to do all my recordings.

Everything is working great but for one major thing:

I cannot get the server go into sleep mode when there is no activity and then wake up automatically for scheduled recordings ( I do this to save some power as the server is pretty much doing nothing for about 50% of the time).

This was very simple on Windows (I went into power settings and set it to allow wake timers and also to put the sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity).

There appears to be no simple equivalent for Linux (though I would love to be corrected on this).

What do you think I should do:

1. Accept that Linux is really designed to be run 24/7 and leave the server on all the time? or
2. Persevere, trying to get it to work?

I don't mind keep tinkering with the server if it possible but it would be great to hear from any seasoned Linux users.

Thanks.
