Hello,
I have purchased an M-Audio USB Fast-Track Audio Interface 3-4 years ago and for the last year I have been getting these BSoD while using the computer and sometimes the speakers go off and I have to manually disable-enable the sound card for the speakers to be connected again. I would be very glad if you could help me.

Thank you very much.

for usb audio, you would want to update the BIOS, update the motherboard drivers.
CPU chipset provides usb 2.2 support and many systems have a external USB 3.0 chip that has its own driver you have to install.
you have to update the BIOS since custom since the BIOS does the hardware initialization of the USB subsystems.

you will also want to make sure you update the motherboard audio drivers because the often conflict with other audio sources like USB audio, CPU gpu audio and add on GPU audio. After you are done, you might want to go into control panel and disable any high def audio source that does not have a speaker connected to it.

Hello johnbl,

thanks for answering. I have updated the motherboard drivers, and disabled all other audio sources (like nvidia high definition audio). I will try to update the BIOSbecause I am not yet familiar with BIOS upgrading. I have also searched some M-Audio forums regarding this problem and one person suggested to uninstall the m-audio driver and use the default windows 10 driver. I did this and I will report if the problem is solved with the default driver and not the m-audio one.

if your machine was upgraded from a older windows version like windows 7, and you have some Logitech hardware, be sure to update the drivers for your Logitech. There were some old versions that would grab packets intended for other usb devices. This caused the second device to have problems.

(I just mention this because you indicated you got the device several years ago, and you might have a older upgraded machine)

bios upgrades were required after 2012 for usb 2.x
bios upgrades were required after 2013 for usb 3.x

I upgraded BIOS to latest version. As you said, indeed I have upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 but I did not have Logitech hardware as long as I can remember. By upgrading to the latest BIOS, my motherboard sound also became enabled. I will disable it again and inform you if the BIOS + disabling other audio devices fixed the problem, because the BSoD is incosistent in appearing.

Thanks for your help.

[Update] After some hours, I experienced the same typical problem where the sound goes off and I have to disable-enable the sound driver, but it didn't work this time and I had to restart to fix it.
