First big dollar PC I'm building. I've never had anything with some real power, so I'm going strong on this one to last me for some time. I love RPGs, and I plan on getting into some FPSs on PC rather than on console. Here's what I have:

Chassis: Raidmax Monster II ATX High Airflow Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ USB 3.0, & Side-Panel Window (Black Full-size Tempered Glass Window)
CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-7700K 4.20GHZ 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Kaby Lake)
Fan: Corsair Hydro H100i V2 240mm Liquid CPU Cooling System w/ Copper Cold Plate
M.2 SSD: 250GB WD Blue M.2 SATA-III 6.0Gb/s SSD - 540MB/s Read and 465MB/s Write (Single Drive)
HDD: 1TB WD Blue SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 7200 RPM HDD
RAM: 16GB (8GBx2) DDR4/3000MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair Vengeance)
Motherboard: MSI Z270-A Pro ATX w/ USB 3.1, 2 PCIe x16, 4 PCIe x1, 6 SATA3, 1 M.2 SATA/PCIe
Power Supply: 800 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Certified Power Supply
GPU: EVGA GeForce® GTX 1080 Superclocked ACX 3.0 Edition 8GB GDDR5X

I'm unsure if my power supply is overkill or not. Any input about the build will be appreciated!

Hi! A few things:

Your build is very nicely done, but everything deserves constructive criticism.

For the case.. Raidmax is pretty synonymous with 'crap'. Now, granted, they're not 100% horrible- the case you've chosen seems pretty alright. However, if I were you, I would go with a more notable, quality company like Corsair or NZXT.

For the CPU, that's the top-tier LGA1151 CPU on market. So, it's the best you'll get unless you go to Ryzen 7/LGA2011v3.

The AIO cooler is an okay one, but several reports tell of Corsair's H100i pump failing, and leakages. I would go with an EVGA IO instead, or a H110i, H115i, etc.

The M.2.. can't go wrong with these. And Western Digital has a great reputation for providing more than adequate, and...

The M.2.. can't go wrong with these. And Western Digital has a great reputation for providing more than adequate, and even fantastic service and products. However, Samsung's EVO M.2/NVMe drives are reputable for performance. Albeit more pricey, that's the stipulation.

I own this HDD myself, and honestly, I have no issues. Really, it's between Western Digital and Seagate, both have great performance and costumer satisfaction.

Ah, Corsair Vengeance. Pinnacle of RAM, in my personal opinion. No nickpicking on this one.

The motherboard is also great, but I'd go with Asus' STRIX version. Pricier, but.. well worth it.

The PSU is standard with the Raidmax case, and it is the only item I suggest a DEFINITE replacement for. Go with a Corsair/EVGA 80+ Gold rated PSU.

And.. c'mon. It's the GPU. EVGA is reputable for fantastic quality SC cards. I was gonna have one myself, but the budget controls the quality.

Anyhow, that's all my suggestions. Hope I helped. :)

This is very helpful, thank you very much. So far, I've adjusted my Fan, opting for the H110i instead. I did some quick research and found what you had stated, regarding failure and leakage. Also due to this, I had to switch out my Chassis, as the Raidmax I had selected is only 240mm compatible. I very much like the look of the Corsair Obsidian Series 450D Mid Tower, which is 280mm compatible for the new fan. Cost goes up a bit, but I guess it'll be worth it in the end. Also switched to the EVGA 600 80 PLUS Power Supply, as 800 Watts is probably overkill and slightly more expensive than the downgrade. And might I ask what the difference between the two motherboards is? I'm clueless on motherboards:)

Now is the part where I tell you that I have this all selected on Cyberpower and you yell at me to buy these separately. Thing is, I'd have no clue what to do in terms of assembly, and much rather receive the completed product for a premium :pt1cable:

Where, how and in what condition you purchase these items, summatively or separately, is your call.

And Asus is the producer of STRIX GPUs and boards, which have very popular reputations. You won't go far in the gaming scene before 'STRIX' begins coming around everywhere. It's synonymous with enthusiast.

The difference isn't huge, besides things like better quality, assurance of mind and usually more aesthetic changes, etc. Honestly, get the MSI board if it feels right. There's no turndown to either.
