I have all my songs organized by album on my USB drive and they all play correctly except when I plug the USB into my car's radio some songs from pretty much all of the folders will transfer to a folder called Unknown. The Unknown folder isn't on the USB, my radio makes it up. I'm wondering what I can do to fix the songs that get transferred to the Unknown folder so that they will play in the correct folder.

Does your car radio display the song, artist, studio, etc.?

Do the transferred songs show up as blank or "unknown" in the display. Or as normally expected? Do the songs play first and then transfer or just skip being played and go to the Unknown Folder...?

Could be some built in function in the radio's software/firmware. Check the radios manual.

Look for some pattern with respect to the song files being transferred. Maybe songs with a given playtime, Certain letters in the title - any common factor at all.

Could be some part of the file information being interpreted by the radio's software as a transfer code. Then the radio looks for and does not find the unknown folder. If the folder is not found - the radio creates the...

Make a USB drive copy to experiment with. E.g. create the "Unknown folder" yourself and see if the files go there. Put one "problem" song in several albums - see if it gets transferred each time. Or change just one letter in the title.

The objective is to find a pattern that can lead you to some possible solutions.

On my computer they show up how I would like them to show up on my radio, but as soon as I plug in my usb into my radio certain songs from pretty much all of albums/mixtapes that I have on my USB drive go to a folder named Unknown. They all will play just fine. I would just like them to play in the correct folders/by artist. Thanks for the tips. I'll check them all out and get back to you guys.

Exactamundo!!! Toyota cannot find problem...even when they have a brand new unit as a standalone...USB plays only 50% of songs in WMA/MP# format but any computer plays them all at 100% Some songs show Title but not Artist even though full song properties show up on computer or MP3 player.

Interesting:

For the moment the only thing I can think of is to take a careful and detailed look at the songs that do play versus those that do not.

What differences, if any, exist: source, method copied, etc..

May be running into some sort of copyright protection or a bug therein - via Toyota's firmware. May take some deep digging....
