one router, 2 computers one spasmodically without Internet !! help

This morning I have no Internet on my main computer. On opening it downloaded my e mails, just fine, but no Internet connection, trouble shooted but no answer just cannot find the problem. I am writing this on my lap top which is connected to the same router, no problems. If I turn off the main computer and turn it back on again I have Internet for long enough for it to down load any e mails that is all. I am old, blond, well if honest grey, and not very computer savvy at all. Any suggestions? please

Unlikely that your main computer would have downloaded emails without an internet connection.

Please provide more information about that computer: what OS (Operating System) is installed?

Could simply be that some upgrade has changed things.

Losing internet after some period of time may indicate a problem with the current network adapter.

Try clicking the network icon (usually lower right screen corner) and run the Trouble shooter. See if that process finds and fixes anything.

  3. It was frustrating as I knew that the puter was connected, even if only for a little while. OS is Internet explorer 11, I think that is what you mean by OS, lol said I wasn't computerese literate. Tried all the obvious things on trouble shooting. still had little red cross on connection. Yet no probs with laptop.

Thanks I unplugged the Neufbox (I'm in France) counted to 10, plugged it back in had shower, came back the bloomin Internet was connected, but had to reload all contacts, passwordsertc. Still none the wiser as to what happened but thanks a million
  4. You are very welcome.

Windows (XP, 7, 10) is the operating system. Internet Explorer is a browser within Windows. Internet Explorer is "out", Microsoft is using Edge as the browser now. Other browsers can be used: Firefox, Chrome, Opera...

Exactly what happened may be difficult to determine.

    Two things:

    1) Overall, somewhere internet connectivity was lost - most likely via your ISP connection.
    2) Something corrupted your contact and password lists on your main computer.

Once connectivity was restored it just took some for your router and network devices to get themselves all back in order.

Not sure about the need to reload all your contacts and passwords on the main computer. That is strange and would not at all be related to unplugging the Neufbox.

Could be one of the downloaded emails was corrupted and caused additional problems. Or perhaps contained some malware...

If you have not already done so you should be sure that your AV software is up to date and then run a full scan. Just as a precaution.
