Hello,
I have a dell optiplex 790 with an i5 2400 and I would like to know if the ivy bridge i5 3750 will work on it before I take my pc apart again. I already bout the chip without checking that out first. I have seen arguments supporting both yes and no. Does anyone out there have a definitive answer for me, any help is greatly appreciated. my current build is
i5 2400
gtx 1060 6gb sc
20GB ddr3
2TB SSHD

Have you checked the CPU support list for that line of PCs? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwj-q_Wo5OPTAhXm6IMKHWMqBVUQFggyMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fclascsg.uconn.edu%2Fdownload%2Fspecs%2FO790.pdf&usg=AFQjCNE2zwqVVEnkjX5-NhlL4QkP0MJQbA&sig2=jXQQoTf4XG0XYxpk2vQtfw&cad=rja
It isn't listed, so it probably won't be recognized w/o a BIOS update. And I doubt there is one for that PC.

If you don't get any other responses here, check on the Dell forum. One of the reps will jump in and help. Btw, I have a Optiplex 790 myself. The SFF, tho.

I have several of the x90 series Dells and I've only been able to use Sandy Bridge on them with the latest BIOS I can find, no Ivy Bridge support that I can find.
