Ram or ssd for laptop running slowly

Hi I have a dell latitude E6420. It has 4gb ram. I find that it is running quite slowly with applications hanging and things generally slow. I am considering either 8gb ram or a ssd. Which would be most beneficial for performance? Thanks

the ssd will improve drastically windows boot times, and also web browsers load time, in general the system will feel more fast

if you use chrome, you need 8 gbs of ram, it is a ram hungry web browser

so if you can, do both, i would definitively go first for the ssd, later the ram
