My computer's WiFi speeds have been very inconsistent lately, and just yesterday, they've tanked to roughly .5 Mbps. Since then, they have been fluctuating like crazy. My computers says I'm pulling 104 Mbps, then it drops to 5, then up to 50. Internet speed tests have put me at roughly 1 Mbps.

I checked to see if it was our ISP or anything related to it (As we've had problems with them before), but my phone, and the two laptops in the house are performing fine. I did internet speed tests on all of them. Every device scored around 22 Mbps while my computer is struggling with .5-1 Mbps.

I've got a desktop computer with some good hardware compared to the other computers in the house. I also put in a number of new parts a few months ago. This leads me to believe it may be the Wireless USB adapter. I have a Netgear WNDA3100v2 USB Wireless adapter. It's about 6(?) years old. I checked all the drivers and they seem to be up to date.

Is it possible I just need a new adapter? I searched through other threads, but found no answer. I would hook my computer up to an Ethernet cable if that was possible, but I don't have one, and getting my computer to the router would be difficult.

Thanks for your help!

You may need a new adapter and if you get one get it with an USB extender cable. Put the adapter away from the CPU.

Plugging a new USB WiFi adapter in to the back side of your CPU, with the CPU, You, the new filing cabinet (or other item) between the adapter and the router will not help your signal Speed, Level or Reliability.
