I recently built a new pc (parts: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xyKrf8) and i am having a lot of bad luck with it, i thought i finally fixed all of its issues but now its apparent i have not... my pc seems to restart... not all the time but it does it a fair amount, it restarted 3 times today and i was only using it for a few hours in the evening, the first two were far apart... infact about an hours difference but the problem still occured and after reducing my cpu from its overclocked 3.5ghz to 3.2 it became apparent that that was not the issue as i booted up yet another game... all 3 of these times the game was different... it happened once on fallout 4, once on overwatch and once on gta... It happens rarely and wouldnt be much of a problem if i didnt play competetive games such as overwatch where leaving midgame will result in a ban after a few times so for this reason i would prefer not to keep this issue any longer... I installed something called AMD overdrive as i heard online that you could make your gpu fans faster... this however made things worse as i had to restart for it and when i did i had to restore an old point due to windows not booting properly... unfortunatly i only have one restore point and it was an hour ago therefore if the problem was something i installed recently i wont know what it is... i did install some mods for fallout 4 today and the issue has only started happening today so they might be the problem but i assume its something else... note: it only happens while gaming and yes im getting a stable cpu temp but have yet to check the graphics temp while gaming (ill update this soon)... has anyone got any ideas on what could be causing it and the possible fixes?
Thanks :D
(oh an i did a command prompt command and i was told "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.")

The orange led on the zalman case is just the HDD activity light mate.
Ignore that completely.

The best programs for testing GPU & CPU (either seoerately or simultaneously) are furmark & Intel burn test.

http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html

Run furmark on its own to test gpu.
standard 720p windowed test is fine

If it plays out OK then run an intel burn test to test CPU.

Both these programs run for around 3 minutes & complete/stop automatically.

If still OK give it 5 minutes them start furmark test & straight away start burn test at the same time.

This will test system wide power draw.

If all these 3 instances pass then you are entirely clear on CPU, GPU & PSU being...

Random reboots are usually, PSU, RAM, or software and usually in that order.
if you have another PSU to replace and test with, do. try one stick of ram at a time and see if the reboots occur, or run memtest86 for 2 passes and look for errors.
try booting to a live linux distribution and see if the reboot follows to linux, if it does it is a hardware issue, if not its a software problem. windows or drivers etc.

That's far more work than is strictly necessary. If loading the GPU causes it to reboot, it's almost certainly the PSU. If it doesn't pair that with Prime 95 and try again. If that doesn't cause it to reboot, it's not the PSU.

Then memtest for RAM, as stated above.

Only bother with Linux if all else fails to identify the problem. If you haven't used Linux before, it's usually easier to reinstall Windows.

I think its only doing it for my cpu as my gpu isnt really doing much and its fans havent even started to activate yet and i did it for about 3 minutes and didnt get any psu errors but bear it in mind the gpu wasnt activating during the time the cpu was put under load so the psu might not have been pumping full amounts of power
Oh and i forgot to mention i dont know if it means anything but i have a small orange led next to my restart button that lights up at different frequencies if thats trying to alert me to any problems (zalman z3)

yeah im doing the cpu test right now, i opened it up and wiggled a few things around and played an hour of fallout 4 without any issues whatsoever so when i was moving it a cable may have slightly wiggled out or something, i mean i didnt feel anything when i pushed them in but i didnt crash, i will keep this thread updated and if it crashes again i will send another message saying so

And gpu seems good atm Its been on for 8 minutes now and is at a steady 76 degrees maximum and 104-105 fps average Still hasnt ended yet though I ran the GPU stress test at the settings its on default and at 1024 x 768 (720p wasnt an option)

Ok running them both at the same time gave furmark a serious hit... with multiple fps drops but so far ive been running them at the same time for 4 minutes and 30 seconds with no errors... i dont want to overwork them so im going to turn both off now but it seems either my pc is fine now i wiggled stuff around or its not the psu/cpu/gpu and the intel burn test completed during that time

Yeah mate running them that way will hit the actual fps.
Then point though was to test them both together for power draw more than anything else.

You've hit the system with more load than it will ever hit during gaming so for me GPU,PSU,CPU on a hardware level are not the problem at all.

Really if you want to test 100% properly you need to set core affinities in task manager for each program so furmark is only using one thread.

Play around with the system mate , if no further problems looks good.

Just post back here if this reoccurs, thread is marked so I get email notification anyway.
