Installing a SSD to an old IDE laptop?

Hi to all,

Straight to my question;
I have an old Satellite M40X with 2gig ram and a celeron cpu.
It is a laptop that i loved back in old days and still runs perfect with win 7.
Only issue i see is the bottleneck of hdd. I have an up to date desktop and i would like to speed my laptop a little and use it for browsing/multimedia purposes more effectively.
Is there a way i can install a SSD to my IDE Satellite? And would win 10 be more effective?

PS: There was a user; jason9922 who wrote that he made some modifications and installed a SSD to an IDE laptop in another thread but i need some details.

Thanks in advance to all who tries to help/share info.

I have a similar level Tosh laptop. Currently running Win 10.
The drive is not the bottleneck in it. It was slow when new.

And if the old drive is actually an IDE drive, there is no easy way to merge a SATA SSD in there.
Are you sure its an IDE drive, and you're not just seeing the laptop interface between SATA and laptop board?

Guys thanks for the advices.
In terms of OS, I think I will go with win10.
But I really feel like the old mechanical hdd is the bottleneck in my laptop. And it seems like the only way to have a better experience/speed it up, is the ssd upgrade if possible.
Is it possible to install an mSata ssd with ide adapter?
