Hey guys !

I'm new to this forum. I'm wondering how risky it wold be to run Radeon RX 580 on 500W PSU which I already own?

My build:
- Intel i5-7500
- NZXT Kraken X31
- 500GB SSD
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 2 x 120mm coolers

And BEQUITE! Pure Power 10 500w PSU. I don't want to switch PSU at the moment because it is quite new.

I'm now struggling between RX580 4GB or GTX 1060 3GB as they are at same price point here. I realise that GTX1060 would be more power efficient, but should be this PSU god enough also for RX580? Maybe some of you have similar setup and encounter some issues?

Thank you !

Oops your right, thought I read 580 has same consumption as 480/380 just higher clock speeds, didnt realize it had a 8 pin +6 pin + PCI ex which = 150w+75+75 which can mean almost 300W full load not around 200 ish with 6 pins

I was gonna get one, but I dont have cash to burn, this 380 does fine, 1080p and have to lower a lot of settings in games like HItman or GTA V but get way over 60 fps, gotta try with octa now, these were with quad and hecta core. Just got used 8320 and havent ran a octa in over a year.

WHen Ryzen time comes skipping 580s, me want crossfire new furys vega based for 5k VSR ;)

It will work, but that PSU isn't even single rail. It has two 12v rails, one at 20A (240w) and the other 28A (336w) max. So essentially, that is a 336w max PSU to your single connector graphics card.
Ideally, you would want to replace your PSU with something that is single rail and has 500W+ available on the 12v rail. Even with the GTX 1060 you would be straining the 12v rail on that PSU. So I would go for even a more power efficient GPU than the 1060, like the 1050ti, or upgrade the PSU. The GTX 1060 is more power efficient than the 580, but not by that much that let you get away with a weak PSU. Especially if you connect it to one of the rails that extra 80w power efficiency isn't going to make any difference, as opposed to a dual connector 580 that can be connected to two rails.

Thanks for your answers, guys !

Just bought Palit JetStream GTX 1060 6GB because of best price/performance here where I live. In the future I will take care also of PSU if necessary, but at the moment I guess it should be enough for now.
