I have been searching for information about an other incompatibility issue between Chrome and java, that manifested when Chrome ver. 53.* was dropped as an update. I became aware of the situation through Avast when I renewed my license.
After a relentless search in the forums for Avast/Oracle java/and finally here, I did not discover any information.
I am of the opinion that I'll reinstall BOTH java utilities after having un-installed them.and see if the system operates properly..

NOTE: I am very technically able after having been an Aerospace Tech for 18yrs. I have confronted many problems similar to this one, but I am at wit's end here. Retirement was not supposed to be this challenging, BUT my life would be in shambles if I didn't have a reliable personal computer

Toshiba L-755 Laptop/Win 7 SP1 x64/Firewall from my Arris Modem Router/Windows Firewall/AVAST version 17.4.2294 (build 17.4.3482.0)/Spybot Search & Destroy FREE version. 2.4.4.0 Start center version 2.2.40.130/Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit)
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. This World became a hobble of a much greater
size when Smart Phones became the GoTo for too many citizens of the World...js.
