Need recommendation for Ryzen build

Hello guys,

I am just about ready to order the parts for my Ryzen build. I have more or less kept up with news regarding Ryzen since it launched but I am not certain what parts to pick when it comes to the motherboard and ram.

The build will be for a budget video editing rig. I may overclock it a little, especially the ram since it's so important to Ryzen, but I am not a fan of overclocking so I don't expect to try to gain every last drop of performance the chip can give. I will likelly just push it a little over base specs.

So here are the parts I have chosen so far. I am uncertain about motherboard and memory because I know some motherboards are very picky about ram and won't accept any fast memory settings. Also I am not sure what ram works well with Ryzen, I have read many stories of ram supposedly designed for Ryzen and not working at all.

Ok so my part list:
Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 (good choice?) If not what would be best in that price range?
Corsair Vengence LPX (2X8 Gb) DDR-4 3200, CAS 16
Ryzen 1600X
Cryorig H7 air cooler (if I can find it with an AM4 bracket)

Also, do you guys think I should go with a Ryzen 1700 instead and try to overclock it to match 1600X frequency? Would that be possible on air cooling, or would I be forced to go to water (which I am not interested in doing). My reason for choosing 1600X is that at stock speed, it's 20% IPC faster than the 1700. I know I loose 2 cores and 4 threads but I think the difference would be minimal and it's quite a bit cheaper (about 80 CAN$). Only if I could get the 1700 to run at about the same frequency do I think it would be worth the extra money.

Ok, here is what I have in mind for the build:

AMD Ryzen 1600 (to be overclocked to around 3.8 GHz depending on termals)
Cryorig H7 Cooler
MSI - B350 PC MATE Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX (2X8 Gb) DDR-4 3200 CAS 16 Memory
Crucial MX300 525 Gb M.2-2280 Boot SSD
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM HD
Sapphire Radeon 6870 (transferred from older system while waiting for GTX 1170 to release this year)
Cougar Volant Mid ATX Case
Corsair CXM 750W 80+ Bronze Semi-modular Power Supply (system requirement Is 380W)
LG DVD-Writer to be transferred from older system
Case fans to be added as needed, probably 2 120mm front intake

This will replace my aging Core2Quad and will be hooked up to my 3 X 27" displays
Thinking about adding a raid 5 card...

Rig looks ok to me, just change the motherboard, Gigabyte seem to be the worse at the moment with fixing memory issues and getting ram to boot anything over 2133mhz, go with an ASUS or an MSI.

As for the cooler, take a look at this, or you can easily mod the existing bracket yourself, all you need is a drill http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/cryorig-ryzen-am4-cooler-upgrade,news-54690.html

I made the same CPU choice as well, using essentially the same logic for my needs. The 1600x just seems to show the best overall performance-to-$ ratios and capabilities are very good in the wealth of benchmarks and comparisons out there.

I went with the G-Skill Flare-X @3200...peer pressure :) I am partial to my Zalman 92mm cooper air cooler. I've used two over the years and they are both going strong and work really well. For the price and AM4 compatibility, it's hard to go wrong. I know many guys would laugh at that option, but it's been flawless for me and they are some of the highest rated coolers on newegg.

Thanks guys! Will look into what MSI and Asus are offering.

I just watched a video that suggested using a 1600 is a better option vs the 1600X, since you can get the same performance out of both chips and the 1600 is 30$ cheaper. It doesn't come with the Wraith cooler but I wasn't gonna use it anyway.

As for memory, are there advantages of using G-Skill Flare-X?

Will post my build in a few mins....

Thinking about adding a raid 5 card to hook up 3 2TB drives. This will be used to edit 4K video and I would hate to loose the files if HD fails.
