Computer seems to start normally (all fans move, HDD whirs), but I see "no signal" on the monitor. The only way to get it to display anything is to clear CMOS using the CLR_CMOS jumper. After that it resets a couple of times a couple of times before displaying the picture and doing the initial BIOS setup. After that it works as normal.

Seems to me there's something wrong with the motherboard, but I can't rule out of the graphics card. Is there any hope of getting this working? I'm thinking of getting a new motherboard.

Thanks very much.

Hardware
GA-Z97N-WIFI
i7 4790k
Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB (8GBx2)
Gigabyte Geforce960
Samsung 850 EVO
Corsair CX600M Power supply
Corsair H100i GTX
Windows 10 Professional

It looks like your CPU has Intel Integrated Graphics. Remove the Graphics Card and connect the monitor to the motherboard video port (I didn't check whether your motherboard has the ports). If the problem persists, that would rule out the Graphics card.

Thanks for your help.

Looks like it might be the RAM - a few strange new problems have come up. I'd really appreciate your take on it.

  • Removed Geforce960
    No signal
    Discharged battery
Computer got stuck in a loop - reset as BIOS setup was loading
    Discharged battery
    No effect
    Removed 1x8GB RAM
Got into BIOS setup and saved settings
    Booted normally
    Did cold shut down
    Booted normally
    Added 1x8GB RAM
    Booted normally.

I've done three or four cold boots, and I've been unable to replicate the original problem. Maybe I should try again with the graphics card back in.

EDIT: Reinstalled Geforce960 and worked fine from two cold boots without needing to discharge the battery.

Hard to diagnose when a problem comes and goes away seemingly randomly. How many DIMM (RAM) slots does your motherboard have? If more than 2 are you using the correct ones when using 2 sticks of RAM? The motherboard manual should specify which slots to use for 2 sticks of RAM.

There are only two DIMM slots. I've just started it from cold boot again - working good as new. Clueless as to what it could be.

Thanks for all your help.
