I recently got into video editing and my computer tends to be sluggish. I can do 1080p fine but it is testing the limit of my patience.

I have a intel pentinum g645 and 4gigs of ram and no gpu. To get more performance shoud I buy more ram or a new gpu.

I was planning to buy 4 more gigs of ram or a new nvidia GeForce Gt 710. So what do you guys think? GPU or RAM?

P.S I can only buy one of them.

Neither RAM or GPU are going to show any real substantial gains when paired with a 5 years old, dual-core CPU.

Personally, I'd look to the used market to see if I could score an i5-2400 or greater, SandyBridge chip (i5-2500/k, i7-2600/k too). Performance gains from the additional cores and clock speed would be much more useful.

If it came down to RAM vs GPU though, it depends on your applications.
Generally, additional RAM would be of much more benefit than a GPU - especially a GPU of the ilk of a GT710.
You need to upgrade your CPU before anything. GPU and RAM will not help as video editing is mostly based off the CPU. Also depending on your hard drive, that can slow things down. I went from a HDD to an SSD, and it has helped a lot.
