So I have a new HDD coming (Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA III 6gb/s). I've only ever used the non-Asmedia SATA III driver ports on my mobo (MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) ) but now that I have this new drive coming which has the 6Gb/s speeds, I will use the 7th port to install the HDD. I also bought a 6gb/s SATA III speed cable which is also backwards compatible with 3 gb/s and 1.5gb/s speeds. So when I install it my HDD should function until I can install the Asmedia SATA III 6gb/s drivers from my mobo page.

My question, I got the most highly rated cable from newegg for this, which was $6.18 after shipping. I got "Straight to Right angle" as I read it's the best... what's the difference? People seem to say Straight to Right is better than Straight to Straight or Straight to left.

Also this cable has a metal latch on it... what exactly for?

Here is the cable I ordered: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812123111

Solution
Straight or bent doesn't make any difference other than the bent connectors take up less space behind the drive. The metal latch will prevent the connector working its way out and potentially causing loss of data.

Honestly it's just like hdmi cables you can get one for $60 or buy one for $10 there pretty much the same. Your going to get people to justify their particular choice but they did a big test and found there wasn't any difference between the cheapest and most expensive. Straight to straight or straight to right no difference.
