My Xfinity business modem has 4 ethernet connections on the back. From those connections, i feed internet to 2 routers (we have several computers/printers networked together. I know the fastest connection would be straight to the ethernet connection in the modem. So I attempt to move my primary computer to that connection and my primary printer to that connection from the NetGear76 router and suddenly my computer cannot see the internet. It can see the printer, but not the internet. I have turned off all firewalls, and tried every other possibility I can come up with , to no avail. Any suggestions? I don't claim to have computer savy, but I'm usually the one the bosses count on to keep things up and running.

so if i run Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the switch, i can plug everything that is now plugged into routers, into the switch with no other equipment and each desktop connected will have the modem's speed?

Yes, if your modem is a gateway device with a modem and router in one that gives out multiple IP addresses, you can just use a switch to connect to one of the ports on it and connect the computers to that switch.
