i5-7600k vs i7-6700 for gaming/streaming?

So I am putting together a part list for my first ever PC build and I am trying to keep the budget low, currently it is at $765 with the i5-7600k @ 3.8 GHz and an EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB ACX 2.0. I should mention I do intend to overclock as it allegedly can hit 4.2 GHz.

Previously I had the i7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz (not 'k') in the build, and with a cheaper motherboard, was able to keep the build around $750. The budget is the biggest factor for me, as I will need to also purchase windows and a monitor.

I hope to play current games like Overwatch and reasonable settings at or above 60 fps. Potentially I may stream on twitch as well.

My question is as follows: Is there a significant difference between the two processors selected, and if so which would be preferable for my purposes. Or is there another that would be better (keep in mind budget - cannot be too much more expensive!).

Well streaming will be your deal breaker. If streaming is something you are going to do regularly, get the i7, but if it's not then it should be OK. Also the 1050 2GB is going hold you back in some games. I would try to drop down 6500 if overclocking isn't your thing.

Thanks for the response! The graphics cards make me even more confused than the processors as to what is needed.

I'm hearing that a lot. But like I always say, go with what you trust. If Ryzen can continue to deliver like it's doing, I may switch, but right now, I know and trust intel and it offers everything needed, at least for my needs.

That's a good point, not sure how I missed the 7700, its actually a couple $ less than the 6700 right now so most likely will pick that.

I've decided to swap out the 1050 2GB with a 1050 Ti 4GB, found an i7-7700k for only ~$30 more than the i7-7700 so going to use that and overclock both. That should help with the streaming and some of the games I would have had difficulty with.

I really hate to burst your bubble, and I am the type of guy that tries to save, but if you are going to gt a 7700K, pairing with a 1050 4GB is a bit overkill. If you can, grab a RX 480 4GB, I'm sure they went down in price. The 580s just came out so they are takign the sppot light for now.

I'd rather have my bubble burst than waste my money. I assume the "overkill" is that the GPU is not good enough? I'm not really too worried about that, as I intend to upgrade the GPU at a later point. Also, it seems the 480 is around $200 which is almost $100 more than the 1050 I can get.

As I said previously, the budget is limited and I just want to put something together to serve as a starting point for future upgrades. I would rather start out with a bottleneck now than have to wait another month or so to save up for the better GPU. That way I can upgrade each part more significantly in the future and not have to worry about not being able to play games.
