I'm building a PC, and I was wondering If i could update the bios by burning the update to a disc and booting off of it. I don't know if using the 1060 you will need to update the BIOS or not. I looked it up it says to if you're using a single fan, but I don't know about a double fan. Thank you.

Solution
Why not just use a USB stick, much easier.

Is there a reason why you need to update the BIOS? Updating the wrong firmware can brick your motherbaord.

No it's just that I was going to take parts from an alienware x51 r2, and I didn't, but when I was I had to update the bios to A012 or at least that's what someone told me. I don't know if it's important or not. My friend told me if it wasn't the right bios it just won't boot up.

Do I even need to update the bios? I'm not using alienware x51 parts anymore. I'm going to be buying new parts. I just need to know if I still need update the bios on my new motherboard.

Yeah I don't know what's going on yet, I also want to know what will happen if I put the gtx 1060 in with a bios that isn't compatible. I don't know if they're compatible yet.

If you motherboard was built after 2014, then it should be compatitble. Ollder motherboards work too, but it's a good rule of them to know that after 2014, most of them have the PCIe 3.0..even then 2.0 will work with the GTX 1060. But it's also about the power supply.
