I think I may need a new mobo

One of my household Pc's has been having problems with my 2 sticks of Corsair vengeance ram 8 gb kit for a while, needing to be reseated often, then it started reading as 6gb instead of 8 but when I reseated a few times it would come up as 8 again, I guessed one of the sticks was dying, then the other day the pc wouldnt even turn on with both sticks in.

I tested them out in another Pc and sure enough 1 of the sticks wouldn't let the Pc boot up, so I've marked that as faulty.

Now I have 2 more sticks of ram for the original Pc, corsair XMS 3 and it booted up fine with both in so I thought all was fine till I checked the amount of ram I had in the system which says 6gb.I reseated the new ram and the pc wouldn't turn on again and I had to leave it off a while before it would turn on and it would only turn on with 1 stick in.

My question is do you guys think the faulty corsair stick could have somehow broken the ram slots on the mobo? or did the mobo break the ram ?

the mobo is a gigabyte ga-990fxa-d3 I've had it a long while now. the original vengeance ram is cmz8gx3m2a1600c8 and the new ram is cmx4gx3m1a1333c9 if any of that is needed. I know the ram isn't as good and slower but it was all I could get but they are compatible.

Another thing I find odd is putting 2 sticks in causes the Pc to completely die for a while it won't even turn on.

Any help would be appreciated but I'm guessing it will be a new mobo , which is annoying because it's an am3 plus and no one sells them around my area any more it's all am4 so I'll need to buy even more new ddr4 ram and a new gpu along with the mobo.

Edit: I have tried all 4 slots on the mobo it kills the Pc having more than one stick in at a time no matter which slots I use.

Solution
If it would be mobo fault, it would be one slot faulty and rest could still be good. Take new stick and test it in all 4 slots - if slot will report 2 gb instead of 4 (although it's possible more then one is faulty) then make your build avoiding bad slot(s).
