I would like to know which one of the two cpu's would be best for the Dell Optiplex 3020 Micro?

- Intel Core i3-4170T Processor
3M Cache, 3.20 GHz
http://ark.intel.com/products/81209/Intel-Core-i3-4170T-Processor-3M-Cache-3_20-GHz

- Intel Core i3-4360T Processor
4M Cache, 3.20 GHz
https://ark.intel.com/products/77494/Intel-Core-i3-4360T-Processor-4M-Cache-3_20-GHz?q=%20i3-4360T

Would there be any real difference in speed? Just need advice picking. Although, the i3-4360T seems to be harder to find than the i3-4170T. The dell won't be used for gaming, only for the net and office work.

Solution

The OP explicitly said that this PC won't be used for gaming in the first post.

@Nx6595 I'll just re-iterate what I said about those two CPUs being effectively the same. I don't know if a -T CPU is required, but if you want to play it safe then go for it. They'll be fine for what you're using it for anyway.

iirc, the t is a line of lower speed and lower heat generated cpus, so none is a speed demon, at all

if ypu plan to upgrade, i wouldn't call a i3 low power model upgrade, go for a i5 unless you need a low speed low heat cpu, but there are i5 or i7 capable of that too

The only difference is that the 4360T has an extra MB of L3 cache (4 vs 3 MB). You won't notice the difference. If you have to get one of those two CPUs, get whatever's cheaper. But I don't see why you wouldn't get a full power (non -T) i3 at least. I don't think they cost any more. What CPU do you have currently?

Currenty, there's no cpu in the system (bought it barebones). I read that the Dell Optiplex 3020 Micro will only take the T (Power-optimized) CPU's.

if it is the slim sff case, yes, a t model with the best smallest heatsink is what you need

but those cases, those dell comes with a cpu, and the 3020 is a bit old, you are buying it second hand right?

for gaming, is not a ideal pc, for htpc, is not a ideal pc either, the psu is noisy and gets hot, be patient with it

if it is the normal wide 3020, you can out in it whatever you want in terms of cpu and gpu, change psu and put more ram

Yes, I got it second hand barebones (no cpu, hard drive, and memory). It will be used for internet and office stuff.

if it is the sff, the slim one, you might need a T version, yes, add 4 or gbs of ram, a 120 gb ssd and if budget allows and gtx 1050 low profile

thats it

now, you don't know if the thing works, usually when someone sells a pc this way, especially dell, is for a reason, something died on it, lets hope it wasn't mainboard or psu

Eh, I don't think there's any reason in particular to think it's defective. Selling barebones units isn't really that unusual.

Probably don't need a GTX 1050 (or any graphics card) if you're just doing office work and web browsing. Assuming the mobo has enough/the right video outputs.
