What hardware to upgrade for better website hosting?

Solution

10,000 users? Really?
I'm just wondering why you wish to host this at home, rather than some hosting service?

And the website security is absolutely an issue.

Lastly, a connection speed of 150/30 (down/up) is pretty limited if you actually have 10,000 users.

Way too broad for any specific hardware list.

How many people is "a lot"? 10 or 10,000?
Hosting what, exactly?
What is the bandwidth, both up and down?
How are you set up for the security issues?

Say, 10,000 people at any given moment on an all text website (several gb) with up seeds of 150 mbps and down speeds of 30. Ignore security.

I was honestly just curious and didn't actually do anything :D
Just thinking about making something to connect with everybody I know and everybody they know. :D
Thanks for the replies though.

The problem with your question is that you're starting with Hardware to address what is absolutely, in the first instance, a software problem.

If you were actually considering this then the first step is identifying the right web package that actually meets your needs. So you research that and settle on something (like Droopal, Wordpress, Sharepoint, etc). Once you have a plan for the software environment and features you'll need, then (and only then) can you start to spec out the hardware requirements.
