Compatibility of these two components

I would like to find out if these two components... Intel motherboard D101GGC and Sapphire graphics card HD3650 are compatible with each other and why. I have tried using the manufacturer’s websites but to no success. It is part of my research for my college course work. I would appreciate any help!

Backward compatible means that a component like the PCI Express 2.0 x16 GPU will also work in a PCI Express 1.0 or 1.1 slot. That same GPU will also work in a PCI Express 3.0 slot because it also is backward compatible so that an older GPU (or other adapter) can still be used in a newer motherboard. However you can't presume that a PCI Express 3.0 adapter will work in a PCI Express 1.0 or 1.1 slot.

I don't know why they selected the components they did for myself and my class, I suspect the assignments are just old. Thank you for your reply. When you say backward compatible, what exactly does that mean?
