Which component is most likely causing issues?

I have a fairly new custom built x99 system.

The issues started months ago and slowly became worse as time went on until now the PC refuses to power on.

The first issue was that when I restart my system due to an error or basic updates. Sometimes the PC would boot up but show no signal, it simply shut down after a few seconds or it reboots every few seconds. This happened more frequently as time went on.

The light on the power button also sometimes did not function and other times it did.

I didn't know what the issue was but leaving the PC off overnight would usually fix it. Also resetting the CMOS and jumping the system sometimes worked.

Eventually, it came to the point where the PC unexpectedly shutdown which was a first and then the next day while booting up it made a strange mechanical sounding noise then shut down permanently. I opened the case to see if I could smell any shortages but found nothing.

I've swapped out all the ram and they seem fine. I also changed my GPU slot and checked all the cables are properly connected and there is no overheating of the GPU or CPU.

I thought maybe its the PSU but that's the newest component in there and is a pretty high quality one.

I have taken everything out of the case and have made sure everything is properly reconnected and that there are no visible shorts or damage. I have tried resetting the cmos again and jumping the system overnight with no luck.

The motherboard is an MSI x99A MPOWER. The onboard power button lights up but nothing else, not even the LED number indicator. There are no error sounds, or anything for that matter when pressing the power button. Nothing simply happens. :(

I don't have spare components to test with so I want to make sure which component is most likely failing before buying a new one.

You are sure that PSU can't be the culprit as its the newest part in there.
I say highly likely its your PSU because its the NEWEST part and it was probably faulty since day one which gradually got worsened to the current situation.
I would DEFINITELY replace PSU first, i had a friend who received a DOA corsair AX1200i, which is one of the highest quality build PSU in the market.
Many things can happen during packaging and shipping and high quality doesn't mean item can't be bad, it only means their percentage of failing is much lower but i think in your case you got unlucky.

Is there any way of further troubleshooting the system to narrow down the components?

I may have a warranty for the PSU, it's a be silent dark power pro 11 850w 80+ plat.
