I bought a new IBM 4029-020 when I retired from employment back in 1992. I'm a home user so didn't use it a great deal and to date there have been no more than 2 full cartridges through it. Unfortunately some of the copper(?) wires in a silver coloured carrier, that pass across the paper path (not sure what they are called) got damaged by a paper jam so when I last used it there were black lines across the centre of the page about mid-way. Shortly after that my PC died and my parallel port went with it so the printer sits there all forlorn. I now have a HP PC but no parallel port. I'm told that a USB converter can be used to drive a parallel port printer. However, will it work under Windows 10? In any case, I'm unlikely to use it again but at the same time I feel reluctant to just dump my dear old work horse which looks brand new and complete with all it's bits and pieces. So, to make some decisions I need answers to the following:
1. What is the damaged part called?
2. Are spares still around?
3. Can anyone confirm that a USB/Parallel port converter would work?
4. Does anyone else run a 4029 under W10?
Any guidance and/or advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Ivan
