As the title says, I want to install a new GPU the GeForce gtx 1060 gaming x 6g. My PSU is 500 watts.
Would my GPU work, it requires a 8 pin connector but PSU only has 6 pin connector?

Better list the make and model of your "500W" PSU. A single 6 pin doesn't sound like it is a real 500W unit. Probably has the specs of a 350W. While you're at it, list the rest of the system so we can get an idea of the rest of the load.

You should get a better psu with the proper connector, an adapter would be a bad idea as your current psu is very poor quality.
