I've been using 3 sticks of 4GB RAM, and I went to add the fourth stick but I can't get the computer to boot with all 4 sticks in. The motherboard's LEDs show error code 26, which is apparently an "OEM pre-memory initialization code". I have two slightly different but mostly identical sets of RAM sticks I'm trying to use:

The current configuration I'm using that works is blue in DIMM 2, red in DIMM 3, and another blue in DIMM 4. If I put the final red stick in DIMM 1, I get the 26 error code at startup. I've tried googling it and I've read the manual but I'm not 100% clear on what "XMP" means or how to tell if I'm dual channeling correctly (manual says to use DIMM 2 and 4, but if I use all 4 slots then what?). Any help would be very appreciated, and I can post bios screenshots if needed.

My PC:
CPU: i7 4790k

Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (manual here: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-manual)
650W PSU
980 Ti GPU
