Hello, my 2 tb hard drive has recently failed (1,5 years of service) and now I'm thinking of buying a new ~120GB SSD (To install windows and system files on it, for performance) and a really reliable 1,5tb+ hard drive.
I don't want to spend more than 300$ on these 2.

1) Can you please tell me if it is a good idea to buy SDD only for system and HDD for everything else ?

2) Can you recommend me some really reliable and optimal products ? (SSD and HDD)

Whats the name of your old 2tb hard drive and did you buy it retail from an online store or get a hand me down oem version from ebay or amazon.com used ?

120gb is too small these days for a windows C drive.
Many things default to the C drive and when it approaches full, it will lose performance and endurance.

Most hard drives will have warranties longer than 1.5 years, look to rma your drive.

What do you store on the hard drive?
A hard drive best usage is to store large sequential files such as videos.

Performance apps and such do better on a ssd.
With ssd prices coming down, consider rethinking your storage plans.

I would look to a 250gb ssd at minimum, perhaps 500gb.
Samsung 850 EVO is currently considered the most reliable and best performing of ssd's.

Hard drive reliability numbers that are accurate are hard to find.
I think you would do best with WD of some sort.
Here is a good report on the WD rainbow.
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Understanding-the-WD-Rainbow-674/

I do not know the price differences or how important that is to you.

I bought WD red for my son for general storage use.
I figured performance for a storage drive is not so important, and the price was right.

Some of the WD blue drives are 5400rpm, essentially a rebrand of the old wd green.
That is ok for backups, but they will power down when not in use. Not so good for windows.

Bought this one from retail shop
1863GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 ATA Device (SATA)

I am just interested if it would be right to buy SSD for windows and system and an HDD for everything else.

Yes.
SSD: OS, applications, maybe a game or two if space fits.
250GB SSD minimum.

HDD: all that other stuff that does not require the SSD speed.

Call them next monday and start the rma process, if they say it is oem version you won't get any warranty coverage.
If it is a retail model with any remaining warranty service on it ask them to replace it.
Tell them yes you tested it elsewhere and it still does not boot or not recognized in the bios.

I recommend a hard drive for your os, others here that use ssd's will swear against using a hdd for the os because of the speed.
Having one right now I hardly noticed the difference between them, ssd's are more likely to fail before they're life expectancy.
I personally recommend you steer clear of them, long as you don't drop the hard drive or hit the drive making the platters go off track.
You really shouldn't have much of a problem unless it craps out on you.
If you clearly dead set on having a ssd for the os, then use this one here same manufacturer and good value.
If it fails for any reason call them up explain whats going on, show your electronic receipt and you get a free replacement drive.

Current consumer grade SSD's are proving to be more reliable that traditional HDD's.

Of the 15 or so drives I have here, running, within arms reach...I've had 1 die in the last 5 years.
A 3TB WD HDD.
Small sample size, but your claim of "ssd's are more likely to fail before they're life expectancy" would need a little bit of backup and documentation.

And the WD Blue SSD you recommend is a bit to new to have any real history built up. The Samsung recommended above is a proven performer.
Lastly, that WD Blue SSD only counts if his motherboard has the proper port for it. Which we do not know.

I never did if you check the newegg specs closely you wouldn't have asked me that or keep going on.
Just leave it at that and don't bring it up again.
