Graphics card problem or Power supply problem?

Hello,

I have built this system back in 2015 and has performed pretty well, until recently a weird issue has come up. My monitor goes in to stand-by mode after a certain time in gaming or just random workloads and along with that, the system freezes.(Num lock light freezes on the keyboard). The only option is to hard shutdown the PC.
The weird issue is, the CPU and GPU both pass the extreme stress tests, prime95 and Furmark respectively! The problem is also very erratic!

I have placed a you tube link of me explaining the issue more elaborately, so please have a look and help figure this issue. Thank you!
(Please excuse the poor recording quality)

The specs are:
FX 8350 (O.C 4.5 Ghz),
Asus 990FX motherboard,
XFX R9 280X,
Corsair GS 700 PSU,
Samsung 850 evo SSD,
WD black 1 TB HDD.

First dont press the power button to shutdown in that case. You have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to force shutdown. Now I'm not going to try to dignose an overclocked system. Just to many varibles. Set it back to stock and see if happens. If not then calk it up to a bad OC.

Hello elbert thank you for your reply, the OC was applied just today. As you must have seen in the video, I was using a stock AMD cooler, so no OC back then. I got a hyper 212 just recently and I have tried everything, resetting bios to factory, clearing the CMOS, testing various RAM configurations (2x4 GB Kingston blue) but nothing seems to work here. According to me the OC is fine. What else can be deduced from the video? Why is the monitor light blinking while HDMI is connected and not while it is removed?
Thanks...

Yes, I did, I have checked everything. I am on performance setting, I have tried putting the GPU in every PCIe x16 slot. Thanks for the help!

Ok try just running your system in safe mode to see if this happens. If it doesn't I could be a driver also check if your motherboard has the latest bios. It could be a stablity problem. The link is for the ASUS 990fx so if your motherboard is version 2.0 let me know.

It is the M5A99FX Pro R 2.0 motherboard (Sorry for not mentioning) and I am on the latest 2501 BIOS. Even I suspect a driver issue, how do I check for it in safe mode? I'll have to wait hours and it may still not crash, as it is very erratic! Thanks...

I used this utility and only my Network and sound drivers were old, so updated them but the system still locks up! Stressing the system does less damage than idling this system :pt1cable:

Mostly all your hardware has been tested. I would suggest a clean reinstall of wundows. If tho you want to try and fix the problem run anti virus boot scan and malewarebytes. If you dont have an anti virus get Avast from the link and malewarebytes.

Next clean up your system using ccleaner and use advanced systemcare to scan all for bad settings. Leave only disk scan and disk optimization unchecked as your OS takes care of those. Also use boost to shutdown unneeded services. Both are in the popular downloads in the above link. With any luck its a service you dont need causing the issue.

Yeah, I have regular Ccleaner checks and I tried the advanced system care too, everything seems fine there, I am not willing to try a new windows install as it is a very big hassle! (For me). The problem has become less frequent now but not solved completely, I will keep posting any updates if so...
Thanks

Yes I think the same thing, well I dont have any spare GPU or PSU to test with so I am gonna have to try with this only and one more thing, when the PC crashes, the display monitor goes to sleep but the speakers that are connected to my PC also make a distinct sound like when you abruptly plug in or out the audio jack, that kind of sound!
Thank you for your help...

Ok I have narrowed down the problem to two possibilities, Either My graphics card's BIOS is seriously hit. I should note I had flashed the BIOS twice (safely) as new updates were available on the website.
or
My Power supply is not able to supply the required current to those PCIe connectors (1 six pin and 1 eight pin) during load. However, the PC sometimes crashes even when games are not running.

What can be done here? I could invest in a new GPU, possibly a 1050ti or I could invest in a new PSU ~(CX-600). (Low on budget)
Thank you
